Just mention about coreldraw, inkscape, adobe illustrator and so many programs that designated for digital art. USER UGM is not only playing in the fine art world, we want to learn also about design. 21 April 2015 is the day for design day in Ruang Sidang II Gelanggang.

For the material review, that was delivered by Master Mukhlis Nugraha. Class was began with material overview of design graphic. He asked the audiences to be more creative mixing art and digital tools since it gives so many chances widening our creativity. Not only about theory, audiences practicing to make a real product such as logo. He explained the steps and giving advices for logo making. The result: everyone was able to do a product design. A Day with Clay

Remember your childhood when you play your wax, clay, sands, or even butter to a beautiful toys. In this middle of April, USER UGM created an event : A Day with Clay. This event managed as a nostalgia for our childhood moment. Guided by Master Safiera Clay, people were taking their time to make clay dough. 

Knead your dough

Here the steps. Take a quarter part of starch and wheat flour. Mix with glue and knead it until it proof enough. Later, shape the dough as you desire. Just play with your imagination. Prepare your colors and lead your imagination to be brush for your toys.

LASER : Berkarya dengan Paper Quilling

               Berkreasi merupakan hal yang sangat menyenangkan untuk semua kalangan, termasuk bagi para mahasiwa. Kreasi dan kreatifitas dapat dituangkan dalam berbagai aksi apapun, salah satunya adalah paper quilling. Ada yang tahu paper quilling itu apa? Yap paper quilling adalah seni kerajinan tangan membuat gambar menjadi tampak timbul menggunakan bahan berupa kertas.

               Kelas User atau biasa disebut LASER dengan tema Paper Quilling dilakukan pada 7 dan 10 April 2015, pukul 16.00 WIB di ruang sidang 2, Gelanggang Mahasiswa UGM. Kali ini sahabat USER dipandu oleh mahasiswi UGM yang telah berkecimpung di dunia kreasi Paper Quilling, yaitu kak Putri. Putri menekuni paper quilling melalui PKM-K.

               Kegiatan di sela-sela UTS dan kuliah tidak mematahkan semangat sahabat USER untuk berkreasi paper quilling. Karya-karya yang berhasil dibuat sahabat USER meliputi bunga, awan, crossbow, wajah, jimbo (julukan untuk penyu miliki kak Fitria) dan kapal. Berbagi pengalaman, canda, tawa dan semangat untuk berkreasi selalu tergambar dalam wajah-wajah kami. Sungguh berkarya merupakan suatu kegiatan yang sangat membahagiakan?

USER UGM Inslatallation Panel in Wiswakharman Expo UGM 2015

Wiswakharman Expo (WEX) is an annual event held by Architecture Department Universitas Gadjah Mada. WEX is held in Taman Budaya Yogyakarta, 2-5 April 2015. This year is the first time Unit Seni Rupa Universitas Gadjah Mada involved in this special celebration. To respond the invitation, USER UGM preparing five artworks installation.

Visitation by audiences

First artwork an installation “Dedek Kecil”, was about a little children which watched his tab and shot by metal. It represented children condition nowadays which does not aware with their environment. They are just having fun with their own gadget without enjoying playing time with their friends. The interaction is not based on human to human but human to machine.

Three Boxes Figure, wanted to tell about Jogja as a comfort place where people can live together.

Then, an idea is about Jogja’s contour which is not comfortable again as a town. Jogja is moving to an urban place where people run with modernism and hedonism. Hotel and resort is build anywhere without thinking environmental problems is getting more and more day by day. Yes it might helps government to feed the people and reduce unemployment. However, the environment is far important than only talk about profit and money.

Later, A Tree Intallation which told about Jogja nowadays which far away from children playing ground. Trees in Jogja is getting rare and rare since there are many new buildings build to fulfill human’s capital needed.

The last artwork is titled Yang Tak Terlewat (The Unmissed). It is made to respond the cultural context in every single building human made in this world. As the example, when people build their house, there always be an offering as the ritual for the house itself. Javanese people will make tumpengan or selametan to gratitude and asking for permission to the unseen world as if they believe that live in this world is not only consists of human only. There are another dimensions live together with us. So far in this modern era people are still continuing the ritual since they keep believe with their ancestor’s words. Fengshui, Chinese special calculation is also still being used to spot the best building positions because believe that it brings luck. These examples shows that there is connection between building and culture which stand together forming a unity.
